A New Chapter for Sunseeker: A Transformative Growth Story
Sunseeker, the iconic British boatbuilder, is set to embark on an exciting journey with a new ownership structure and a fresh vision for the future.
The recent acquisition of Sunseeker International by a consortium led by KCP Holdings, in partnership with Lionheart Capital, marks a significant turning point for the company. With the completion of a debt purchase from existing lenders, the consortium is poised to take Sunseeker to new heights.
But here's where it gets intriguing: The transaction, which includes the acquisition of 100% of Sunseeker's shares, is subject to regulatory approvals, a standard procedure expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. During this transition period, Sunseeker continues its operations seamlessly.
In November 2024, Sunseeker International underwent a change of ownership, moving from China's Wanda real-estate group to a partnership between Italy's Orienta Capital Partners and the US's Lionheart Capital. Now, with KCP Holdings at the helm, the company is ready to write a new chapter in its history.
KCP Holdings, established in 1952, brings its global presence and expertise to the table. With offices in New York, London, Singapore, and Washington, DC, the consortium has expressed its support for Sunseeker's existing business plan. This plan focuses on investing in product development, reintroducing a superyacht offering, and implementing changes to the operating model. The consortium plans to further invest in brand enhancement, operational improvements, product innovation, customer experience, and workforce development.
As part of this ownership transition, Scott Millar steps down as interim CEO, making way for Andrés Rubio, the newly appointed permanent CEO. Rubio, with over 30 years of experience in commercial leadership and business transformation across the US, Europe, and Asia, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. His most recent position as CEO of Intrum AB and his previous role as a senior partner at Apollo Management International showcase his ability to drive transformative change.
Additionally, Antony Sheriff has been appointed as the non-executive chairman. Sheriff, a Sunseeker board member since November 2024, has a distinguished career, having served as executive chairman of Princess Yachts and CEO of McLaren Automotive. His appointment adds further depth to Sunseeker's leadership team.
And this is the part most people miss: Sunseeker's journey hasn't been without its challenges. The company has been undergoing a restructuring process, which included announcing 200 redundancies in June 2025, representing around 10% of its workforce. This decision was made in response to a softening global demand due to political and economic uncertainties, particularly the impact of Trump's trade tariffs.
Despite these challenges, Sunseeker has demonstrated resilience. In November, the company received new capital investment from its lenders, Cheyne Capital and Cross Ocean Partners. This injection of funds led to changes in the leadership team, with the departure of former CEO Andrea Frabetti and the appointment of Mark Chinery as the new sales director and Mario Gornati as the marketing and communications director.
Andrés Rubio, the incoming CEO, expressed his admiration for Sunseeker, recognizing it as the pinnacle of luxury yacht building with a unique heritage. Sunseeker International, founded in 1969 and headquartered in Poole, Dorset, employs approximately 1,900 people. The company produces around 90 yachts per year, ranging from 55ft to 134ft, with approximately 98% of its production being exported. Sunseeker's global reach is evident through its distribution network, covering more than 60 countries, and its recent success at the 2026 Miami Yacht Show, where it sold five yachts.
