Michael Chernow, the Pirates' farm director, was blown away by Hernandez's explosive pitching. "When that ball leaves his hand, it's a sight to behold. It's absolutely explosive," Chernow remarked.

Chernow praised Hernandez's understanding and control of this pitch, saying, "At his age, his feel for the changeup is exceptional. He knows why the pitch moves the way it does and how to adjust his finger pressure accordingly."
A great changeup can be a game-changer, especially early in Hernandez's career. Many low-level hitters won't have faced a pitch of this caliber before, giving Hernandez a significant advantage. He also has three other pitches in his arsenal, an impressive feat for someone of his age.
Chernow added, "All his pitches look great coming out of his hand. He throws with intent and purpose, which is rare for someone his age."
Despite his advanced skills, Hernandez is still transitioning from high school baseball. Chernow acknowledges that Hernandez will face challenges and adjustments, but his current talent level should make finding the right balance easier in the future.
"Who Hernandez becomes as a big league pitcher won't be who he is today. There will be changes, adaptations, and counter-adaptations. But with such a strong foundation, he's well-positioned to evolve from a higher starting point."
