A disturbing situation has unfolded in North Santander as a passenger plane operated by Satena seems to have completely disappeared from radar contact, raising significant concerns for those on board. The flight HK4709 was en route from Cucuta to Ocaña on Wednesday and had a total of 15 individuals, including passengers and crew members.
Communication with air traffic control was reportedly lost around noon local time (5 PM GMT), prompting immediate search protocols to be activated. This small aircraft, which has the capacity to carry up to 19 people, was originally scheduled to land at Aguas Claras Airport in Ocaña at approximately 12:10 PM.
According to information shared by the Directorate of Accident Investigation (AerocivilCol), there are ongoing efforts to gather details surrounding the communication loss of flight HK4709. Alarm bells were sounded when the aircraft failed to arrive at its designated destination. The last known position of the plane, tracked by radar, was situated between Hacarí and La Playa de Belén in the Catatumbo region, as reported by El Heraldo.
Satena confirmed that flight HK4709 took off at 11:42 AM but that the last known communication occurred just after takeoff, at 11:54 AM. In response to the unsettling news, transport minister Maria Rojas stated that the necessary emergency protocols have been initiated, including the activation of a Power Management Unit (PMU).
Local media outlets have indicated that search operations are currently concentrated on remote and challenging terrains in the northern region, heightening the urgency of the situation. As this story develops, many will be watching closely to see what emerges from the investigation into this baffling disappearance.
